The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,300 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 22 trips to carry that many people.

This is a poem that is very close to my heart. I think it is simple and beautifully written and possibly one of the rarest poems that truly speaks to me. It is a poem by E.E Cummings who has a wonderful way of putting things into words, stuff that your heart would truly feel but your tongue would falter at deliverance.

I don’t feel there was any other way for me to express
such beautiful words and feelings other than by letterpress.
I think just like love, it is a subtle and an understated art,
not in your face or forceful, but enough to provide a presence (a beautiful presence at that)
and finally, it leaves a permanent, life-long impression
be it in colour or blind letterpress.

This is the project that started my letterpress ideas lately. I have always loved giving presents more than receiving them. More so when I can make it myself or involve other disciplines that revolve around what I do on a day-to-day basis i.e art/design/craft wise etc. And in doing so, thereby making it as personal and as individual as possible. I used to get requests for special, one-off personalised gifts and seeing that I had been toying with the idea of a poem for a while and I had a birthday looming in the distance, I made this instead. The original poem is written in lower case (without any capital letters) or periods instead, he used parentheses or semi-colons. I changed it a bit but I feel his original way of writing it is the best way to read and understand/feel his passion.

Here it is

I would like to thank all the lovely letterpress printers I have hassled for a week or two to find out if it could be printed by letterpress. Especially, Dan at Glasgow Press (http://www.glasgowpress.co.uk/), Mrs Margaret Hendry at Piccolo Press Ltd, and finally Cecilia at Typoretum (http://blog.typoretum.co.uk/). All U.K based letterpress printers creating beautifully crafted paper goods! And finally, thanks to Adrian at Redcliffe Imaging Ltd where it was finally realised albeit digitally!

Thank you for looking!

I absolutely adore beautifully hand-made… Shoes (I know, so does most of the female population and a handful of men!)

But what better example of this other than the, unequivocally, beautifully crafted Brogues that I dote one. I love the detailing on the leather, the hard soles that ‘click’ authoritatively, the unwaxed laces that look like finely knitted brows or even the fine thin waxed ones, the fine stitching running along the tongue and the tip/curve of the Brogue which has to be just right…

I really detest the badly made shapeless silhouettes that I see a lot of people wearing. I call these ‘Foot Mittens’. I am no fashionista but I love a bit of an attitude and respect certain items demand from the wearer. Instantly making you feel sexier or giving you a kick-ass attitude. (Of course there are days I am more than happy to live off my totes/footsies or even better:bare feet when I am at home!)

This artwork is inspired by my love of Brogues…

It started as pencil drawings, moved to pen & ink and finally settled into hand cut prints. And now, re-invented the old pencil drawings I had done earlier onto lovely cotton bags with  hand-painted brogues on them (I love the simplicity of it when it is done in a single colour on the cotton bags).

Yay!

TWENTY CARDS!

Yup, you read it right! 10 designs, 2 of each from the Birds & Bows series, Twirling Pine as well as Fontmas Card design.

So what if it was a mate? Who’s judging? ;-p (Actually, I am!)

To make it a bit special seeing that paypal was playing up and I had my ‘first order’, I decided, none the less, I’ll give it the attention I would have given to an actual customer. Gifts are great but it does make a difference how we treat it; The packaging and delivery are a sort of charm. After all, you wouldn’t¬† pop a ring for your fianc√© on any odd food item but maybe in champagne (definitely not in runny eggs, no matter how much she loves a good breakfast). The way it is presented, down to the smallest details, matters (to me). I want people to open their purchase and go: oooo…ahhhh…¬† oww that is sweeeet…

I’m big on not just buying an item but the buying into the brand. The first thing people see is the packaging before trying to guess what it could be and often badly wrapped items be they bought from a shop or handmade gifts, are a right turn off. You wouldn’t want clothes you just bought chucked into any bag and handed to you! so you see, you buy the item and the experience too. Hence my personalised approach of:

Handcut & printed wrapping paper, inner (tissue) wrapping paper, gift tags (recycled fabric), A note of thanks for good custom and maybe a freebie thrown in to showcase your work.

Here’s what I did:

Henry, is a young Owl whose mother died or left under mysterious circumstances that no one knows about. All he has of her is a woolly jumper she knit for him to keep him warm as an Owlet. It has a red stain on it and a furry collar made from her very own small, soft under wing feathers.

Henry is a happy, playful and considerate owl but with every sunset, his heart sinks and sometimes it makes him cry and the red stain on his jumper turns bright and glows and takes on a shape no one in the forest has seen. You see, Henry is the only Owl in the forest that is afraid of the dark and all the nightly creatures and critters that come out to play laugh at Henry…

Henry was first painted using various mediums (watercolours, pen&ink etc) on acid free 300gsm watercolour paper

Hand cut and printed using non-toxic water based high quality printing inks on 300gsm acid free water colour paper. Available as postcards, greeting cards or as a print for framing. Please specify colour preference if any.
