Firstly, A very warm Merry Christmas to all the customers, friends and family of Samphire Arts. without all of you all, where would I be? ( I’d have no one reading my ramblings… ;p )

I wish to thank you all for such a wonderful, crazy, busy and eye-opening learning curve of a year! Samphire has been busying itself in all types of new things to learn and make and getting to grips with Facebook & Community pages, advertising and creating a web presence…

Secondly, two / three big developments really, one, I might share with you later in the following year when I do more Craft Fairs (Country Living here we come!!whoop!whoop! Might have to drop the whole “whoop!whoop!” not very country like I guess?). This year has been slower than last but I guess I have had a lot on my plate especially with building the brand up on the web and getting our work out. Thanks to  platforms like Blomming.com (who provide such amazing service!), UK Handmade and the community word of mouth and fairs, we are trudging on… with a silent prayer on our lips and dreams in our hearts… (Corny!! I know, but sooo true! It’s been a very hard albeit fruitful journey to get here. I’m told I am being too hard as Samphire has really and truly not even been around for a year…hehe…what can I say, I’m impatient sometimes or at best of times, insufferable when I have an idea and get it into my head to achieve it… tehehe! ;p )

This year has been truly long in endurance and short in time! But I’ve been grateful for my network of friends / family who’ve guided, held my hand and been very understanding when I say “I can’t meet, I’m busy…”. We managed to get our work out and featured on e-magazines and even selected for Ipad covers (yup, I’m still chuffed about that! When you start out, you realise just how such small victories mean… so allow me, I’m milking it… till Kingdom come!! Tehehe!)

Ok, so…

News 1: We’ve invested in a press (YAY!!) so no more painful wrists, knees or smudged bottles and rolling pins (yup, that was me… Sorry Maria…) Now I need a name for Him, Coz’ I have a Victorian one we lovingly call Bertha! So I’m thinking Abe (short for Abraham?) Feel free to post suggestions for names on the Facebook page here>> http://www.facebook.com/pages/Samphire-Arts

News 2: Samphire will be taking part in the cultural Olympiad next year. Details to follow in the near future as we are working on themes, venue, food, music, exhibitions etc… It’s more than likely to be a 2-3 day event.

News 3: Ohhh… Well, I might tell you next year if all works out well… fingers crossed!

and at last, I wish a you all a Happy Xmas and an even better New Year!!

2012 here we come.....

Thank you to my wonderful family & friends who keep me going and those who following Samphire-Arts it is much appreciated and loved!

Have you noticed I tend to use exclamation marks quite a lot? Hmm… How else can I translate my excitement?! (see, there it is again! and again…) Anyway onto the subject of this post: Fayre or Fair if you prefer.

We did our First one a few days back from which I am still reeling and nursing my cold from. I haven’t managed to let go of it. I am stuffing envelopes and all sorts of things in my sleep four days on. Which explains why I haven’t posted in a while (that and the nasty sore throat and a cold). Plus I had tons to catch up work-wise. I’ve had to work straight through the days and nights to prepare for a Fair that I spotted down by De Beauvoir  whilst trying to sort out other work related emergencies. Remind me never to try and prepare for a Christmas Fair in a matter of ten days or so! Then again, who am I kidding? I’d do it over and over again if I could. It’s not all fun and games though as I found out. I have a lot respect to people who do these events now that I have had to endure it. As well as friends and  family who have had to endure it with me.

It’s one of the best way to find out how and where your product stands when you release it to your audience. Plus you meet some really nice people  and it’s a great opportunity to test friendships, your gut and find out your breaking point too…hehe 😉

Anyway, here are the pictures from the ‘stall’. More than anything, I loved the enthusiasm that came from customers who smiled and engaged with the products and learned a great deal from them about my prints, Morris Traveller vs Minor, Book marks & Book clubs etc and mainly the abundance in kind words of encouragement.

The ‘Stall’

I had the digital cards, Handmade cards for other occasions, gift tags, postcards , Bookmarks, and hand-painted cotton bags! (my first ones too!), notebooks, A2 prints for framing etc… basically, the works!!

Thank you to:

The organisers; Jen & Edward Benyon, Martin who let us use the beautiful studios. My friends & family,  The lovely ‘stall’ holders (for their company and support for each other), the two young florists, the lovely baker (who had original cinnamon buns on Sunday to die for!!), the lady with the safe back bags, The young lady with the hand-sewn purses, the lady with the glass charms & vintage items, the lads making us haloumi lunches, the lovely customers, and My favourite bubbly knitters/actors (actresses to be precise) and so many more…

Above all, a big thank you to my friend whose company kept me going and who I worked to the bone… testing each others patience hehe… Ευχαριστούμε

Yay!

TWENTY CARDS!

Yup, you read it right! 10 designs, 2 of each from the Birds & Bows series, Twirling Pine as well as Fontmas Card design.

So what if it was a mate? Who’s judging? ;-p (Actually, I am!)

To make it a bit special seeing that paypal was playing up and I had my ‘first order’, I decided, none the less, I’ll give it the attention I would have given to an actual customer. Gifts are great but it does make a difference how we treat it; The packaging and delivery are a sort of charm. After all, you wouldn’t  pop a ring for your fiancé on any odd food item but maybe in champagne (definitely not in runny eggs, no matter how much she loves a good breakfast). The way it is presented, down to the smallest details, matters (to me). I want people to open their purchase and go: oooo…ahhhh…  oww that is sweeeet…

I’m big on not just buying an item but the buying into the brand. The first thing people see is the packaging before trying to guess what it could be and often badly wrapped items be they bought from a shop or handmade gifts, are a right turn off. You wouldn’t want clothes you just bought chucked into any bag and handed to you! so you see, you buy the item and the experience too. Hence my personalised approach of:

Handcut & printed wrapping paper, inner (tissue) wrapping paper, gift tags (recycled fabric), A note of thanks for good custom and maybe a freebie thrown in to showcase your work.

Here’s what I did:

So, they are finally here…
Arrived on Saturday but had way too much to do and only just got round to taking photographs of the final product which is printed on FSC certified stock, satin coated outside for better colour reproduction (and because I can’t stand gloss (Most of the times!)) leaving the insides uncoated so that you can scribble your lovely wishes!

p.s: Excuse the look of the photos,  I am yet to invest in a ‘photography studio’ ;-p
